Gambling!

So, my topic is the effect of legalized gambling on local economies… or something like that. I am not exactly sure which aspects of “economy” that I am going to be studying, since that is a pretty broad topic, and I’m also not sure how I’m going to narrow down my data. Part of me is thinking that i’ll pick a few cities that have legalized gambling in the past few years and look at how it has effected their governments in terms of unemployment, gdp, etc. But I would also like to take a closer look at the economy of places like Las Vegas and Atlantic City and see how much and in what way their local economies are affected by legalized gambling. I have much to ponder.

Look at Indian reservations also. One of our alumni wrote a Ph.D. dissertation on the effects of casinos on the economics of Indian reservations.

You may want to analyze externalities; benefit and cost -. You can do a “broad” study, or a more narrow focus. With the narrow focus, you can delve deeper into a particular concept.
